Market Fundamentals Analysis

Jackson Hole Symposium Countdown Begins: Markets Await Fed Chair Warsh's Inaugural Policy Address Amid High-Level Consolidation in Gold and Silver.

Scheduled for August 27–29, the symposium presents Warsh's Keynote Address as the most critical monetary policy signaling window prior to the Federal Reserve's September FOMC meeting. Investors are heavily focused on his remarks regarding U.S. Treasury volatility, inflation trajectories, and prospective rate-hike tempos. Interest rate futures currently price in a nearly 65% probability of the Fed holding rates unchanged in September, reflecting a notable cooling in rate-hike expectations compared to earlier periods.

However, persistent policy uncertainty prompts traders to maintain controlled position sizes while awaiting definitive guidance. With bull-bear sentiment remaining cautious, intraday volatility in gold and silver has intensified without breaking out of their elevated trading ranges.

U.S. Escalates Iranian Sanctions to Boost Safe-Haven Bid, While Falling Energy Prices Ease Inflation Stickiness Concerns, Leaving Precious Metals Without a Clear Unilateral Catalyst. On August 25, the U.S. expanded economic sanctions against Iran to cover five major sectors, including gold and maritime shipping, driving safe-haven capital flows into precious metals.

However, with the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) drawing down near 44-year lows and market concerns lingering over demand weakness, benchmark international energy prices extended low-level consolidation after dropping over 2% the previous session, returning toward key structural support levels.

Global Gold ETFs Continue Massive Accumulation Alongside Target Upgrades from Top Wall Street Institutions, Building Strong Fundamental Floor Support for Bullion. As of August 24, holdings in SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed ETF, climbed to 1,049.49 tonnes, marking four consecutive trading sessions of net inflows (+27 tonnes over 4 days, >42 tonnes added since August). Concurrently, Citigroup upgraded its 3-month gold target to $4,800/oz while reiterating a medium-to-long-term forecast of $5,000/oz.

Analysts across UBS and Goldman Sachs also raised gold price expectations, further reinforcing market bullish confidence. Combined with structural long-term official central bank gold accumulation, dip-buying absorption remains exceptionally robust during technical retracements.

Gold Technical Analysis

Daily Chart: Spot gold opened at $4,654.49/oz in Asian trading, advancing early to touch an intraday high of $4,696.55 before encountering overhead resistance and pulling back. Despite the short-term retreat, price action remains anchored within a broader bullish trend structure. Moving averages maintain a bullish golden cross, signaling a long-side bias and pointing to medium-term buying opportunities upon retracements toward the 20-day moving average.

Intraday Short-Term (15-Minute Chart): Moving averages display a bearish alignment. A decisive breakdown below the 20-period moving average at $4,638.41 offers a short-side entry, with stop-loss protection referenced above the intraday high at $4,654. Profit-taking can be structured around a 2:1 risk-reward ratio or dynamic moving average trailing stops.

Silver Technical Analysis

Daily Chart: Silver opened at $68.939/oz today, exhibiting weaker momentum than gold while following a similar early spike and subsequent pullback pattern. Moving averages remain in a bearish death cross, sustaining a short-side bias; however, prices have reclaimed positions above the 80-period moving average. Traders should await renewed moving average confluence before staging medium-term position plays.

Intraday Short-Term (15-Minute Chart): Moving averages display a bearish alignment. A breakdown below the 20-period moving average at $68.050 allows for tactical short entries, with stop-loss protection set above local highs at $68.650. Given rangebound choppy conditions, a conservative 1:1 risk-reward target is recommended.
