When managing orders in MT5, you do not need to close an entire position every time. For example, if you hold 1 lot of London Gold and only wish to close 0.5 lot while keeping the remaining 0.5 lot open, you can use the partial-close function. Both desktop and mobile versions of MT5 support full or partial position closing based on trading volume.

MT5 Trading

1. What is Partial Close in MT5

Partial close means closing only a portion of the current open position’s trading volume.

Suppose you hold 1 lot and choose to close 0.4 lot. After execution, your remaining position size will be 0.6 lot. If you hold 0.1 lot and close 0.05 lot, 0.05 lot will remain open.

MT5 saves partial-close details in history records, including the original volume and closed volume, for later verification.

2. How to Perform Partial Close on Desktop MT5

On desktop MT5, go to the Trade tab and locate the position you want to modify.

Open the close-order window. Instead of using the full original volume, enter the lot size you intend to close in the volume field.

For instance, with an existing 1-lot position, enter 0.3 lot to close that portion; 0.7 lot will stay open.

Double-check the volume before execution. The key difference between full close and partial close lies in the lot value you input.

3. Partial-Close Operations on Mobile MT5

On mobile MT5, navigate to the Trade tab, select your target position and open the close-position screen.

The mobile MT5 terminal allows full or partial position settlement by specifying the closing volume. Enter the quantity you plan to close according to your trading plan.

Button placement may vary slightly across mobile builds, but the core workflow remains: select the position first, then confirm how many lots to close.

4. Minimum Lot Sizes on Lucky Gold

For both London Gold and London Silver on Lucky Gold, the minimum per-order volume is 0.01 lot, and the maximum per-order volume is 10 lots.

Take the terminal’s minimum trading unit into account when executing partial closes. For example, if your position is only 0.01 lot, you cannot close 0.005 lot, as this falls below the 0.01-lot minimum specification. A 0.1-lot position offers more flexibility for lot-size adjustments.

5. Where to View Records After Partial Close

Check MT5 history records once the operation finishes.

History logs display volume changes caused by partial closes and preserve links between the original position and closed portion.

This feature is valuable for post-trade review: you can verify at which price you reduced your lot size and where the residual position was ultimately closed.

6. What to Check Before Partial Close

Focus on three key figures: total current position lots, lots to be closed in this operation, and projected remaining lots after completion.

Example: closing 0.2 lot out of a 0.5-lot position leaves 0.3 lot open.

Supporting a 0.01-lot minimum, Lucky Gold provides granular lot-size options for traders who adjust their position volume in stages.
